Taking your first steps into a journalism career?

The Commonwealth Journalists Association is opening applications for its 2025 mentorship scheme, now in its third year. We offer individual guidance from established journalists in fields including broadcasting, print and online.

The scheme is particularly suited to those about to complete a journalism course or degree, or have enjoyed working on a student paper or radio station. With the help and advice of the CJA’s mentors, those about to graduate can embark with confidence on one of the most exciting and fulfilling of careers.

Applications for mentoring should be received by the end of November 2024. A link to the application form is below.

Those accepted will be matched with suitable mentors, ready to begin working together at the beginning of 2025.

We stand for free, honest and unhindered journalism that informs the public without fear or favour. Responding to acute threats to free speech and journalists’ safety the CJA leads a broad-based civil society campaign for effective legal protections and accountable government. In a landmark decision taken in Samoa in October 2024 the 56 heads of government pledged to implement a new 11-point set of Commonwealth Principles on Freedom of Expression and the Role of the Media. https://tinyurl.com/5n6j8v73
